The £750,000 contract is centred on Imperial Tobacco’s manufacturing plant in Nottingham which produces nearly 5000t of waste per year. This includes a variety of materials such as paper and cardboard, metal and wood, as well as tobacco and general waste. 

Imperial Tobacco aims to reduce the amount of waste it sends to landfill to less than 5% during the first year of working with FCC Environment. The recycling and waste management company will also offset Imperial Tobacco’s carbon emissions by planting about 900 trees in the Nottingham area. 

FCC Environment collects waste from Imperial Tobacco and it either goes to a materials recycling facility in Derbyshire for reprocessing or an energy from waste (EfW) plant in Nottingham to generate electricity and heat; both sites are operated by FCC Environment. The company also guarantees the secure and confidential management of waste materials from the manufacture of tobacco products.
