As part of its portfolio, Vega offers a
level switch system capable of
detecting the difference between
rainwater and hydrocarbons in a
bunded area around storage tanks.

This means there is no danger of
hydrocarbons being pumped into the
drainage/effluent system should the
tank develop a leak.

The floating sensor arrangement
always remains on the liquid surface,
using two detection technologies.

One vibrating sensor can detect and
notify any liquid, while a second
conductivity sensor confirms whether
it is hydrocarbon or water present.

The system works on a voting
basis, so both have to signal that
liquid is present to confirm rainwater.

If only the vibrating switch detects a
liquid, it is a hydrocarbon. This can
then trigger an alarm to stop any
automated pumping process and
initiate an intervention.
