Balfour Beatty Rail has
swapped its century-old
foundry for new facilities for
the manufacture of railway crossing
points at South Queensferry in
Scotland.With the move all aspects
of operations were reviewed and
modernised – including materials
handling.

For expert guidance, the company
turned to its long-term supplier,
Douglas Gillespie Plant (DGP). The
Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks
authorised dealer is well-versed in the
company’s operations, having worked
with Balfour Beatty since 1989.

“Balfour Beatty relies heavily upon
its trucks – and its drivers. So the top
priorities were reliability and ergonomic
features,” says DGP’s sales
manager, Ronnie Judge.

The new fleet consists of three
Mitsubishi 2t diesel FD20Ns, a 4t
diesel FD40K and a 5t diesel FD50K.

With low noise levels and emissions,
the trucks are said to be ideal for
working both indoors and out. To
keep drivers comfortable – whatever
the weather – each IC engine truck
has been fitted with a weatherproof
cabin.
