Machines for polishing, surface conditioning and grinding have been around since the industrial revolution. They are based on a traditional powered rotating through spindle on which are mounted mops or other consumable abrasive media. For many years two historical UK companies have manufactured these machines with motor windings that were copper laden, over specified and under rated for their quoted power.
