At United Biscuits, COFELY
has helped achieve a 27%
reduction in gas use, 5.2%
reduction in electricity consumption
and a reduction in CO2 emissions of
27,468kg at its Middlesex HQ. The
work formed the first phase of an
energy conservation programme as
part of COFELY’s energy and
facilities management contract.

“The key to the success of this
project is that we have been working
as one team,” noted United Biscuits’
Mark Tupper. “Once we had agreed
what needed to be done, COFELY
simply went off and delivered it.”
Work ranged from improving
control strategies to fine-tuning
maintenance schedules. The building
management systems and control
networks were completely overhauled,
which included updating a corrupt
database, migrating data from an
older system and installing a new
graphical interface. Intelligent OSS
Sword modules were installed. These
have enabled high power data transfer
without the need for new hardware.

Work included voltage reduction
by 2.6%, installation of energy-saving
shower heads, balancing the main air
intake, adding free-cooling
functionality to air handling plant
and improving lighting control.
