One immediate step is to adopt carbon neutral lubricants and fuels.  Shell Lubricant Solutions has launched a range of carbon neutral lubricants⁽²⁾ to support the manufacturing sector⁽³⁾. As the largest carbon neutral programme in the industry to date, it will help reduce emissions by:

• Compensating for over 60 million litres of advanced synthetic lubricants, and 280,000 tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e)⁽⁴⁾ emissions per year in Europe⁽⁵⁾⁽⁶⁾
• Offsetting the emissions created in the entire lifecycle of these products, with its portfolio of nature-based carbon credits
• Providing customers with high-quality products designed to improve efficiency and reduce resource consumption while offering robust protection. Low-viscosity lubricants can help to increase energy efficiency in industrial applications by up to 4%⁽⁷⁾.

Other ways manufacturers can drive more sustainable, efficient operations include:
