With outbreaks of EHEC, MRSA,
H5N1 and H1N1 being so often
reported, Deb is highlighting the role
good hand hygiene practice has to
play in preventing the spread of these
increasingly common germs.

Employers have a responsibility to
provide adequate skin care facilities
for all employees and addressing
hand hygiene is an important part of
this responsibility.

A hand sanitiser should
complement routine hand washing
and be re-applied every 2-3 hours
and certainly immediately after
coughing, sneezing or touching
surfaces or items likely to have been
contaminated. Organisations can
also provide ‘hand hygiene on the
move’ by supplying a personal issue
sanitiser.
