According to a report issued by analyst firm Pike
Research, LEDs will account for almost half of the
annual commercial lighting market within 10 years.

With the need to save costs and
protect our environment, the
drive for energy efficiency is
accelerating. Since April 2010, the mandatory
Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC)
Energy Efficiency Scheme was introduced to
improve energy efficiency in large public and
private sector organisations responsible for
around 10% of the UK’s CO2 emissions.

The Carbon Trust Implementation
Services and Siemens Financial Services have
combined forces, and together are offering
leases, loans and other financing options to
all types of organisations seeking to reduce
their energy use. Products from cars to
houses are now graded on their energy
efficiency, and organisations from all sectors
are seriously seeking commercially viable
energy saving solutions for the short and
longer term.

One such solution is LED Lighting.

Lighting in buildings accounts for around a
sixth of total UK electricity use, of which
73% is used in industrial and commercial
applications. In more recent times
fluorescent strip lights have taken over many
of the commercial lighting applications but
compared to LED tubes, fluorescents use
about three times more electricity and need
ballasts and starters that also consume
power.

The European Union, which is phasing
out old-style incandescent bulbs ahead of a
total ban in 2012, sees LED lighting as a
crucial step in reducing carbon dioxide
emissions because they use up to 80% less
energy and last longer. Replacing existing
commercial lighting with LEDs has never

chemicals such as phosphor, mercury or lead
found in fluorescent lamps.

Furthermore, the purchase and
installation of NET LED Lighting can be self
financing too.When lighting is purchased on
a 3 or 4 year lease (subject to status) the
actual quarterly savings are greater than the
funds required to finance the lease
repayments. This results in an installation
requiring no capital outlay, especially as the
initial payment can be deferred for between
3 to 6 months (giving you the time to recoup
the savings made on your energy costs). In
some cases, such as in underground car
parks, where lighting is used 24 hours a day,
7 days a week, a significant positive cash
surplus can be achieved each quarter.
