PoGOLite, the Polarized, Gamma-ray
Observer, which will be re-launched
later this year to study high energy
light (x-rays) emitted by heavenly
bodies incorporates Kaydon thin
section bearings in its altitude control
system.

Supplied by R. A. Rodriguez, the
50 and 70mm Kaydon angular
contact bearings allow accurate
control of the elevation angle of the
tele scope. The elevation bearings
carry the full mass of the 700kg
telescope and are able to survive the
10g shock resulting from the launch
of the parachute during landing. In
addition, 90 and 180mm Kaydon
angular contact bearings have also
been specified for the critical
azimuthal motion of the gondola.
