The Arbitration Court of Moscow,
Russia, recently ruled in favour of
DuPont in a trademark infringement
case involving the fire resistant fibre,
Nomex. The case sends a warning to
counterfeiters and demonstrates to
wearers of the
product DuPont’s
measures to
ensure products
containing Nomex
fibre conform to
the regulations
and are of the
highest quality.

A garment manufacturer, which is
part of the DuPont value chain,
became suspicious of a fabric labelled
as Nomex. Detailed tests revealed the
fabric was a sophist icated modifi –
cation of simple fire retardant cotton.

The modification had been carried
out in an attempt to emulate the
lightweight qualities of Nomex.
