As a key product sponsor,
Coleshill based adhesives,
sealants, lubricants and
silicones distributor, Sil-Mid, has
supplied Redux 322 film adhesive to
the Bloodhound SSC project.

Bloodhound SSC aims to break
the 1000mph land speed record with
a supersonic car powered by a jet
engine and rocket.

The lower chassis is made up of
aluminium bulkheads and steel
which will be bonded and riveted
together. As part of the trials to
determine the best adhesive to use
alongside riveting on the chassis, the
team explored performance at high
temperatures, taking into
consideration safety, weight, fatigue
and vibration.

Controlled and managed tests
were carried out on six different
adhesives, three film and three paste.

Sil-Mid says Redux 322 came out on
top owing to its consistent data
spread across all temperatures.
