A condenser washing rig supplied by
Hughes Pumps for the cleaning of
steam turbine radiators at an Energy
from Waste plant operated by Veolia
Environmental Services is helping
the plant produce an extra 1MW of
electrical power.

After leaving the steam turbine,
steam is condensed back into water
in a vacuum steam condenser that
consists of 10m long radiators which
become blocked with airborne dust
and debris. The Hughes Pumps’
washing rig allows semi-automatic
radiator cleaning, which can be
regulated to provide the optimum
cleaning effect to increase the
efficiency of the radiators.
