While 63% said minimising costs is the main motivation for wanting to see greater workplace efficiency, 47% believe that a poor reputation for sustainability could lead to customers viewing their business in a negative light.

The survey of 1000 small business decision-makers identified measures being taken to encourage a more positive attitude to workplace energy performance:

• 55% set improvement targets
• 30% use technology to track efficiency
• 10% have hired a member of staff to monitor energy consumption, spend and waste
