Diodela UK expands laser welding portfolio with compact air-cooled range

Posted on Thursday 5 November 2026

DIODELA UK is introducing DiodAir, a new air-cooled handheld laser welding range designed to give manufacturers a compact, lightweight option alongside its established water-cooled systems

Manufactured in the European Union, DiodAir combines laser welding capability with an air-cooled design that removes the need for a separate water chiller, coolant tank, pump and associated hoses. This reduces the space and supporting equipment required, simplifies cooling-system maintenance and makes the equipment easier to move between workstations.

The DiodAir 1200 delivers 1,200W of laser power in a system weighing just 32kg and measuring 550 × 550 × 320mm. It operates from a standard single-phase 230V supply and features a 650g handheld welding gun to help reduce operator strain.

These characteristics make it an ideal option for manufacturers and fabricators seeking flexibility within their workshops, particularly where space is limited or equipment needs to serve different work areas.

DiodAir complements Diodela UK’s water-cooled equipment, broadening the choice available to customers. System selection depends on the materials, thicknesses, joint designs and production workload involved. Air-cooled systems offer a compact format with fewer cooling components, while water-cooled equipment remains an important option for more sustained, intensive welding requirements.

Across suitable applications, laser welding’s precisely controlled heat input can help limit distortion and produce narrow, clean weld seams, reducing the need for grinding and other finishing operations. Depending on the material and joint, thin components can also be welded without filler wire.

“The introduction of DiodAir gives us greater scope to match laser welding equipment to the way each customer works,” said Andrew Tosh, director of sales at Diodela UK. “For some manufacturers, a compact machine that is straightforward to move between workstations will be particularly useful. Others will need water-cooled equipment to support more sustained production.

“The starting point is always the application. We look at the materials, components and workload, then help customers evaluate the system that best meets those requirements.”

The new DiodAir equipment will also be demonstrated on stand C94 at UK Metals Expo, taking place at the NEC Birmingham on 4–5 November. Visitors will be able to watch live demonstrations and try the machines under expert guidance within Diodela UK’s dedicated welding booth.

Established to bring laser technology developed at the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology in Vilnius, Lithuania, into industrial use, Diodela develops and manufactures laser welding and cleaning systems in the European Union. Its exclusive UK and Ireland distribution partner, Diodela UK, is part of the SKAN Group and provides local sales, technical support, training and application development through its Coventry Centre of Excellence.

Manufacturers can assess Diodela UK’s full range of laser welding and cleaning technology at its Coventry Demonstration Centre, which provides demonstrations, training and application development support. The facility enables businesses to explore their own welding requirements with technical specialists before investing.
