One of Europe’s largest producers of
both diamond and conventional
abrasive wheels, Tyrolit, has
released two new wheel
types. The Ultra product
line uses a new stronger
bonding, allowing
increased wheel
porosity. The
effect is a faster
cutting wheel with reduced
forces and lower temperature
development in the grinding zone.

The end result, says the company,
can be an increase in wheel life of up
to 5 times, shorter grinding cycles
and improved surface quality of the
finished component. These products
generally use more conventional
grain types rather than high cost
sintered alternatives, which means
affordable wheel prices
and improved roller
dresser life.

Other product
innovations include
Polaris electroplated
CBN wheels, which
use new technology to
control the depth and
density of the electroplated
layer that holds the CBN in place.
