Global chemicals
manufacturer Huntsman
Advanced Materials has used
a Nilfisk-CFM solution at its
Duxford manufacturing site.
The site is strictly regulated
by the Environment Agency
and regularly audited for
COMAH compliance.
Standards in place include
ISO14001, OHSAS 18001
and aerospace certification
EN 9100.
Health and Safety is taken
very seriously; constant retraining
centres around the
motto ‘nothing we do is
worth getting hurt for’.
Huntsman needed to
safely collect and dispose of
highly flammable resin
residue, water and toluene.
Flame permits had previously
been necessary, but Nilfisk-
CFM provided a solution
with its A17 DAU (absolute
filtration) air vacuum cleaner.
The machine is air driven,
therefore intrinsically safe
and rated for Atex Zones 1
and 2 plus dust zones 21 and
22. The body of the unit is
made from 316 grade stainless
steel and was supplied with a
mechanical float system and
drain plug. After collection
waste products are wetted
out with water and sent to an
in-house effluent plant for
contaminated waste
treatment.
