The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is
making extensive use of energy sub-metering
systems and software from Elcomponent,
with equipment installed both at the BAS
UK HQ in Cambridge and at research
stations in the Antarctic.

The BAS Rothera research station derives
all its electricity from on-site marine gas oil
powered generator sets, with demand
varying from 180kW in winter to 360kW in
summer. To determine exactly where energy
is being used, BAS has installed 10
Elcomponent sub-meters, with 14 more
planned. Data is monitored at the
Cambridge HQ via a satellite link.
