XYZ Machine Tools will present its
new ProtoTRAK LPM (Lean
Production Machine), the first
ProtoTRAK-equipped machine tool
to be fitted with an automatic tool
changer. The ATC can hold up to 16
tools and this 15 hp/8000 rev/min
BT40 vertical spindle machine has
axis travels in X, Y and Z of 785, 470
and 530mm respectively, with rapid
feeds in all three axes of 20m/min.

The LPM has a number of features
in addition to the ‘plain English’
programming of its ProtoTRAK
control system that differentiate it
from a standard vertical machining
centre. The most significant is the
integral ball lock system machined
into its 900 by 500mm table, which
provides a highly repeatable and
accurate workholding mechanism.
