Gordian Strapping has
supplied an RQ-8Y side seal
automatic strapping machine
to GM Vauxhall Motors. The
bespoke machine has a tapeless
box closing mechanism on
the in-feed and was part of a
state-of-the-art solution
implemented by European
Conveyor Systems at GM
Vauxhall Motors Aftersales
plant in Chalton, Bedfordshire.

Having worked with
Gordian Strapping on
previous projects, European
Conveyor Systems had no
hesitation in selecting a
StraPack RQ-8Y Automatic
Strapping Machine as part of
its recommendation to GM
Vauxhall Motors.

The RQ-8Y was chosen for
its reliability and speed and
the fact that it is designed for
a non-skilled operative to
use. Ready to operate in less
than 25s, it achieves speeds
to 35 straps/min. The
machine has a minimum
amount of moving parts with
permanently lubricated
mechanisms, reducing wear
and tear and increasing
operational life.

A self-correcting function
is useful where time is of the
essence. If the machine is
operated without a package
on the table, the strap forms
a small loop which is ejected
from the sealing unit, leaving
the machine ready for the next
cycle. Other features include
auto strap re-feed, variable
strap tension (to 80kg) and a
self-diagnostic function. An
Auto Shut-Off function
ensures the machine enters
standby mode after 3min.
