Since it first went to market with its
dedicated carbon composite router
(Series 20 CCR) in 2008, SGS
Carbide Tool (UK) has consolidated
its development through field trails
with clients and use of the tooling
globally via international clients.

SGS says the series
delivers performance
and cost-saving
benefits over
conventional PCD
and solid carbide
tooling. The evenhelix
flute form and
chip-breaking
geometry reduce
cutting forces and eliminate the risk
of fibre break-out and delamination,
providing a good product finish.

The company says back-to-back
cutting trials, on a range of carbon
fibre weaves, showed the Series-20
CCR maintained performance over a
longer period than PCD tooling,
reducing costs.

The uncoated CCR routers are
designed to cut dry or with flood
coolant to remove fine dust abraded
from carbon composite components.
