AmbiRad has designed a
low cost cooling system to efficiently
cool three factories for Cosworth in
Northampton which are used for
machining engine components.

The evaporative cooling system
ColdAIR cools air using a natural
principle and is said to be on average
75% cheaper to install than air
conditioning. Suitable for use where
a conventional air conditioner would
prove logistically difficult, the
coolers can reduce the internal air
temperature when required.

In Cosworth’s Factory 12, for
example, which has a volume of
10,650m3, eight ColdAIR RA150
units were installed onto roof input
fan ducts. The fans were removed
and ducting modified to accept the
external cooler and 8 way discharge
plenum. Existing roof extraction
fans were maintained as extraction
rates matched the air input rates.

AmbiRad says the ColdAIR
evaporative cooling system uses only
20% of the energy used by
traditional air conditioning and
makes use of free latent energy in
the atmosphere.
