Thermal Energy International has
received an order worth £246,000
from Salisbury District Hospital
Trust to install a CHP exhaust stack
condensing heat recovery system for
use on its heating and hot water
system. The order follows the
successful installation of a GEM
condensate return system, also from
Thermal Energy.

George Atkinson, head of estates,
says: “This project will provide
further energy savings to add to the
energy efficiency of the CHP system
to be installed concurrently. Overall
the carbon reduction expected from
these projects will demonstrate a
high commitment by the Trust to
improving the environment.”
Last year 70 GEM venturi orifice
steam traps were installed
throughout the hospital, replacing
previous steam traps which, on
average, were either failing open,
shut or half-open at a rate of 10%
per annum.

Salisbury District Hospital’s base
carbon output is 12,600t/annum. By
2015 the hospital expects to have
reduced this to just 11,000t due to
energy efficiency measures such as
the GEM steam traps and new CHP
system.
