Armacell’s new low density thermal
elastomeric foam insulation product
is said to retain flexibility even at
cryogenic temperatures of -200°C.

Processes which use such low
temperatures and require technical
thermal insulation materials include
freeze drying of foods, metal alloy
production using liquid nitrogen, and
manufacture of some chemicals and
pharmaceuticals.

Another area is the freezing of
large volumes of natural gas down to
condensation temperatures (-162°C),
with the resultant liquid gas having a
reduced volume of less than 0.17% of
the gaseous product. Armacell
insulation maintains the
cryotechnical validity of this process
– from initial production to final
regasification where gas is fed into
pipework for distribution to market.

Armaflex LTD has an upper
temperature thermal limit of 125°C,
which ensures internal surfaces of
pipework, tanks and vessels can be
safely subjected to steam or high
temperature chemical cleaning.

Products maintain full strength and
flexibility over the range -200°C to
125°C. This ensures vibration and
impacts can be absorbed, with the
risk of cracking reduced. ArmaSound
insulation can also be incorporated.
