Latest steam trap to launch at MAINTEC
Thermal Energy International is launching its Opal GEM steam trap. Like all other GEM Traps, it uses the high density condensate within its specially configured orifice to hold back steam. As GEM Traps have no moving parts to wear out or fail, maintenance of steam systems converted to GEM Traps is reduced to simple annual inspection and, if necessary, cleaning.

Thermal Energy
International is launching its
Opal GEM steam trap. Like
all other GEM Traps, it uses the high
density condensate within its
specially configured orifice to hold
back steam. As GEM Traps have no
moving parts to wear out or fail,
maintenance of steam systems
converted to GEM Traps is reduced
to simple annual inspection and, if
necessary, cleaning.
Specifically designed for ‘low
load’ line drainage and trace heating
applications, benefits claimed for the
Opal GEM Trap include:
Compact with integral strainer
Easy to retrofit (same fitting
dimensions as mechanical traps)
Fully maintainable in-line
Easy access to both integral
strainer and orifice chamber
10-year performance guarantee
As GEM Traps cannot fail open,
there is no path for live steam to
leak into the condensate lines
causing pressurisation and backpressure
problems with
neighbouring traps. The company
says converted systems result in
permanent energy savings of 10 to
30%. The savings in energy alone
typically pay for the conversion of
the system within 2 years. Stand C7
