The new Acanto length gauge from
Heidenhain combines the benefits of
incremental optical measurement
with absolute measured values in a
compact, IP65-rated device for a
variety of
shopfloor
applications.

Avoiding the
temperature
sensitivity and non-linear behaviour
characteristics of inductive systems,
and instead utilising incremental
optical measurement and absolute
measured value acquisition, Acanto
is available in measuring lengths of
12 and 30mm. Positions are
physically encoded on the glass scale
with a resolution of 23Nm. System
accuracy – linear error over the
entire measuring length – is ± two
microns.

To simplify installation and
handling, versions
are available
with either an
axial or radial
pluggable cable
connection.The plunger
is either moved pneumatically or is
available in a spring-loaded version.

A ceramic-polymer sliding guide
ensures low-friction, low-wear
plunger operation and a long service
life (circa five million cycles).
