Linear variable differential transformers (LVDTs)

Our LVDTs provide simple, cost-effective solutions whenever you need accurate and precise measurement of linear displacement. They consist of a steel core moving inside a stainless steel body containing coils which, when energised, change their electrical output linearly with core movement.

Many options are available depending upon the
series selected. Build options allow you to optimise the construction for the
environment and mounting while electrical output options allow you to specify
the right signal for your process electronics.

Our wide range of LVDTs includes the following
models:

  • Industrial – tough
    and robust for harsh environments
  • Economy – low cost
for test and light industrial use
  • Miniature –
    slimline body for restricted spaces

Measuring ranges are from ±0.25 to ±550mm with AC,
DC voltage and 4-20mA outputs. DC outputs can be via internal or external
converters. Internal electronics make the LVDT longer so external
converters allow the use of the shorter body length AC output LVDTs where space
is limited or where elevated temperatures are expected. There is also a choice
of mechanical options, with a range including plain, guided and spring-loaded
cores or rod-end bearings to allow for system movement or imperfect alignment.
