Arcolectric, an Elektron Technology
brand, has customised one of its
components for PestWest Electronics’
electronic fly killer to alert users to
when maintenance is needed.

Electronic fly killers work by
attracting flying insects using UV
light. UV tubes used for insect control
have a special internal phosphor
coating. However, this can degrade
over time and reduce UV intensity, so
it is important to change tubes
regularly. As UV light is invisible to
humans, PestWest wanted a means of
warning users that tubes need
changing. Elektron solved the problem
by programming its Arcolectric
maintenance indicators for a 12-
month period, giving customers visual
warning that lamps should be replaced.
