A large manufacturer has saved over £40,000 per annum with the installation and design of a new air conditioning system.

EMS a specialist in air conditioning, was awarded a project to replace a purpose built system that was 40 years old for Special Metals Wiggin. The laboratory which is integral to this large manufacturer requires close control of temperature 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, therefore the new system had to be installed in parallel to the existing system in order eliminate any down time.

The new system was installed by constructing a separate framework throughout the room from which to suspend the ductwork, the design was such that if any one of the air handling units failed then 3 others were of sufficient capacity to meet demand.

James Sinclair, of Special Metals Wiggin was delighted with the project “The system designed and installed by EMS has more than paid for itself in reduced running costs. Equally important to us is the zero downtime and confidence in the plant in what is a critical area for our business”.

Over a 3 month testing period the power consumption over this same period was dramatically reduced, Alan Meredith Director of EMS Ltd comments “The cost of running the system for the first 3 months was £9,600 which equated to an annual saving of £41,600 and which in turn equated to a payback on initial investment of 3.5 years.”
