New functions include sending event-driven messages e.g. when the router is rebooted or network cables are plugged and unplugged. Incoming text messages can be used to trigger a reset or establish a VPN tunnel. In addition, INSYS icom has also expanded the memory from 32 MB to 64 MB for all EBW models, which mainly provides a RAM increase from 10 MB to around 40 MB in the INSYS Sandbox, resulting in enhanced performance for applications that run in this virtual Linux environment.

The INSYS Sandbox provides a permanent file system with 150 MB of storage capacity. The INSYS Sandbox is integrated as a Linux environment directly on the EBW devices. Because the sandbox can be programmed separately from the firmware like a virtual machine, users can run their own scripts and programs on the device. The platform also supports the transfer of data to (mobile) devices, custom infrastructures or cloud services (cloud computing). 

Since all EBW models, with the exception of the EBW-E100, combine a modem, router, and 2-port switch in a single device, they provide maximum flexibility for the implementation of custom smart IoT solutions. Available at a competitive price, these broadband routers also feature intelligent connection management for autonomous operation. A stateful firewall, MAC filtering and VPN functionality, which enables secure, unlimited access to mobile and corporate networks, ensure maximum safety. Like all smart devices of the INSYS Smart IoT Platform, EBW routers include a fast start function for the INSYS M2M VPN service.
