Bryan Mundy, founder, explains: “We were brought in to restore the building features. This included the exterior brickwork where we used a fine power washing process to remove all carbon and steam train smog pollution to reveal the brickwork.

“Similar techniques were used on the interior brickwork to  eradicate many layers of paint and oils, again revealing the Victorian brickwork, all of which was  media blasted with a calcium silicate synthetic mineral, which is  ideal for delicate brick, wood and stonework. We also blast cleaned hundreds of metres of oak beams and soft wood flooring to remove all the ground-in flour, finally revealing all the natural wood surfaces. We used a synthetic mineral to blast clean the cast iron beam fixings, bolt heads, brackets and all the original pulleys and larger cast belt wheels to reveal their natural beauty.

“Finally we pressure washed hundreds of metres of roof trusses to remove a century’s worth of flour dust and pollution from the Victorian age, done at low pressure hot water at 100°. We then treated all beams, trusses and wood flooring to kill off existing woodworm and prevent woodworm in the future,” Bryan added.

Some areas were not left 100% clean as the customer wanted parts of the building to still retain a nostalgic and authentic work look. All work was carried out in accordance with the current Health and Safety at Work regulations.
