A new AFI video uses some of the latest online technology to highlight the benefits of the SmartZone safety and security device. 

Embedded within the new video – which can be viewed at www.afi-workzone.co.uk/szonline – are a number of ‘hotspots’ containing extra information about various aspects of SmartZone. You can access the hotspots by clicking on a SmartZone logo whenever it appears on screen.

The new video shows a contractor trying to retrieve a mobile phone that he has left high up on a ledge by attempting to use a machine that he is not authorised to operate. The SmartZone device fitted to the machine denies him access, preventing misuse and a possible accident that could otherwise have arisen because he has not been trained to operate that particular machine.

As well as the new interactive training video, AFI has produced a shorter video that explains the concept of SmartZone. This video can also be viewed at www.afi-workzone.co.uk and on AFI’s YouTube channel.

SmartZone is said to bring far-reaching improvements to safety for operators of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) because it ensures that machines cannot be operated by anyone who has not been properly trained or authorised to use them. 

AFI has recently updated SmartZone, adding further features and reducing the size of the unit so that it is now small enough to be fitted on most MEWPs.
