The project, which will reduce the amount of CO2 emissions by 150t, will then be extended to Barrett Steel Group sites across the UK.

Mel Bray, director of Integrated Management Systems, says: “Not only will the system reduce CO2 emissions, it will produce electricity for on-site use, with the excess exported to the grid.”

Barrett Steel Group is also working towards Group wide accreditation for the environmental standard, ISO 14001:2004, following the award in October 2012 to Barrett Steel Services Bradford, the Group’s head office site. The Group has already implemented initiatives to reduce electricity, water and fuel consumption, optimise raw material use and become more energy efficient in production processes.
