A UK-based plastics injection
medical moulding company
has invested in an Excetek
V350 CNC wire EDM
machine tool supplied by
Warwick Machine Tools and
has recovered the purchase
price in a matter of months.

When flash was spotted at
the end of a component used
for a disposable syringe
protection system produced
in a multi-cavity mould tool,
the engineering team
investigated repairing cavities
by laser welding the section
where flash was occurring
and using wire EDM to
machine it back to size. The
customer supplied Warwick
with welded cavities and size
and finish required. Test cuts
were performed and sent
back for evaluation. An order
for the V350 quickly followed.

With an annual requirement
for about 60 cavities to be
repaired or replaced, so far
the company’s new Excetek
EDM has produced 24 hot
and 24 cold half cavities,
saving more than £80,000.
