Turning excess heat into cooling
Munters has developed Deiscool, an air conditioning system based on desiccant cooling that is suitable for a variety of applications such as process industries, manufacturing, offices premises and retail halls.

Although the system uses no air compressors, it has a capacity similar to conventional CFC-based systems.
It is possible to cool ambient air at a temperature of 30°C down to 15°C. The cooling process is driven by heat, which can either be present in the exhaust air stream, or from a waste or renewable heat source. The more heat added, the cooler it gets, so excess heat can be put to good use. In order to make use of low temperature waste heat a special rotor has been developed to offer optimum performance.
Desicool uses heat as the main energy source for the cooling process, not electricity, and is well suited to applications requiring large amounts of fresh air. In most cases, there is no need for post-heating to raise the air temperature in winter because the heat recovery efficiency is so high. These two advantages provide low running costs and no refrigerant based plant, meaning that maintenance can be taken care of by in-house staff.
Desicool is said to be friendlier to the environment as it reduces energy consumption and thus CO2 emmissions. It is totally free from chemical refrigerants and is unaffected by future refrigerant legislation. The cooling can be created using waste and/or renewable resources and the low running costs can provide a fast payback.
