Solutions, provider of

manufacture services to the
pharmaceutical industry,
employs Hach Lange
monitoring equipment at its
manufacturing facility to the
north of Newcastle upon Tyne.

The company’s wastewater
treatment plant uses liquid
oxygen rather than mechanical
aeration; this is said to enable
the plant to respond quickly
and is said to require about
one-fifth the volume for
aeration.

Shasun’s Craig Goodman
says: “The fast response is
made possible as a result of a
new breed of dissolved oxygen
sensors that we use, the LDO.”
Goodman’s team conducts
30 to 100COD tests/week
(using a Hach Lange spectrophotometer
and pre-filled
COD tubes. This helps with
plant efficiency and discharge
compliance and in calculation
of waste treatment charges
for third parties. Goodman
explains that 1t of COD
requires about 1t of liquid
oxygen for treatment.
