For many industrial users, the financial benefits of on-site generation will be the biggest motivation for investment – with energy costs steadily increasing, having a clean energy source on-site and the ability to create new revenue streams by participation in Grid balancing schemes could save some businesses hundreds of thousands within a year.  But there are also some non-financial drivers behind the uptake of onsite generation – having a back-up in case of an outage is crucial for some organisations, while others use clean onsite generation to meet their sustainability targets. 

Whilst the benefits of on-site generation are broad and the business case compelling, many industrial users simply do not have capex available to invest in new assets.
