Calling machine exporters - the US is changing

OEM exporters of equipment to North America need to be aware of an imminent change in the law governing the efficiency of electric motors incorporated into machinery. The USA is moving towards higher efficiency motors more quickly than Europe, and upgrading from current EPAct efficiency levels to EISA Premium Efficiency levels by the end of this year! Machinery exporters need to start planning for this now. Baldor is the leading manufacturer of NEMA motors and is offering advice to help OEMs make the transition.

Baldor can supply European OEMs with NEMA 3-phase motors that meet the increased energy efficiency demands required by the USA's forthcoming Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA). This legislation, which becomes mandatory on December 19, 2010, sets stringent new efficiency standards for a broad range of 3-phase motors - including explosion proof, severe duty and brake motors - with power ratings from 1-500HP. After this date, imports of equipment containing non-compliant motors will be rejected at the port of entry. By making EISA-compliant motors directly available to European OEM exporters, Baldor is effectively enabling its customers to stay one step ahead of the game.

EISA was signed into US law on December 19, 2007, and takes effect three years after that date. Canadian legislation is underway to become mandatory across Canada in 2011. Similar efficiency standards will be implemented across the EU in 2015.
