An ambidextrous vertical
mouse has been developed
by Posturite, provider of
ergonomic solutions for the workplace.
Called the Penguin, the new mouse is the result of more than 18 months development work by Posturite's ergonomic design team in conjunction with the University of Brighton's Product Development Centre in Hastings.
It is said to offer computer users new standards of protection against workrelated upper limb disorders by allowing both hands to share the daily workload.
Posturite chief executive Ian Fletcher-Price said: "Repetitive use of the dominant hand is one of the most common causes of health problems associated with mousing.
"With musculoskeletal conditions topping the list of reasons why people take time off work sick, that represents a massive cost to the country in both personal and economic terms. If the Penguin manages to prevent or ease the symptoms in even a small percentage of cases, it will have done its job. We're confident that once people have picked up a Penguin, they won't want any other mouse." The Penguin comes in both wired and wireless versions, and standard and small sizes to fit most male and female hands.
