The installation of a Proseal GT2 tray sealer at the Attleborough factory of convenience foods specialist Kerry Foods has increased output by up to 50% and reduced gas use by 25% to deliver fast payback on investment.

The GT2 is used for the MAP sealing of foil trays of 500g and 800g turkey joints and 500g luxury chicken joints. Kerry Foods wanted to upgrade equipment on this line, and with Proseal machines already being operated at its sister factory in Spalding, turned to the company for a solution.

Bob O'Connor, Kerry Foods' maintenance manager, says: "Having chosen the GT2 for its speed and versatility, we opted to delay installation until after the busy Christmas period. However, when our existing machine broke down and was going to cost a fortune to repair, Proseal was able to deliver the machine and tooling within a week. I can't speak highly enough of how they were able to respond and get us out of this predicament." The GT2 offers high speeds due to features such as servo-controlled pack transfer which creates smooth movement for trays during the sealing process, and selfcentring pack guides, which ensure trays are accurately positioned. Other features include automatic film snap and film end detection. A menu-driven control panel provides easy set up and operation.
