Maintec 2015: Ready to roll
21 March 2015
Maintec, an event for the maintenance, plant and asset management industry, opens at the NEC, Birmingham on Tuesday 24th March, 2015, for its fortieth edition. The three-day event will feature many industry leading exhibitors, topical seminars and three complementary co-locations
Katie Crocombe, Maintec event manager, comments: "We were very proud of last year’s show and the feedback was fantastic from both exhibitors and visitors alike. Industry roles are changing and we have ensured we are reflecting that change by giving visitors even more to see when they attend Maintec 2015 – four shows under one roof.”
Learning opportunities
Visitors will have plenty of learning opportunities at Maintec 2015, including a return of The Business Strategy Forum. This will feature sessions from expert speakers and major names from across the industry, including Pilar Colin of Manchester University who will be looking at ‘Selecting an Appropriate Maintenance Model’. Colin will discuss existing models, the key elements to consider and the many benefits an improved maintenance model can bring to an organisation.
Wolfgang Hahn, head of design authority at EDF Energy will be talking about how to ensure plant reliability through permissible operating parameters and safety critical devices. He will establish what the safe operating levels are for reliability and highlight the importance of monitoring and reporting on KPIs. As part of this session Hahn will provide examples of plant damage and the reliability problems that result when the initial operating parameters are exceeded.
Adrian Nembhard, Jyoti K. Sinha and Akilu Kaltungo all from Manchester University will use The Business Strategy Forum to talk about a common maintenance problem - finding identical machines that have different installation and foundations. They will show how the experience from one machine is often difficult to apply to an identical machine. They will then outline a unified approach for vibration-based fault diagnosis which has been developed to bridge this gap.
The University of Manchester has launched a Nuclear Technology Management Professional Development Programme to help develop the next generation of nuclear technical leaders. As a useful insight for attendees, Andrew Wright, programme development lead at Manchester University and director at Dynamic Technologies will share the challenges of developing the programme and the benefits it brings.
There will also be a return for The Business Exchange, a packed programme of practical presentations delivered by some of the biggest names in the industry, sharing both their knowledge and experience. For instance Dean Whittle, training manager at Reliability Maintenance Solutions will discuss how condition monitoring techniques can be utilised to improve the reliability of rotating machinery. He argues that condition monitoring alone does not improve the reliability of machines, and that there are skills and technology available to a condition monitoring engineer which can be utilised in order to improve reliability.
Stephen Donnan, EAM application specialist at Sapphire Systems will explore how technology can maximise organisational maturity and help go beyond simple asset management compliance. Donnan will look closely at the health of assets and will show why taking risks with assets in the long term could lead to burnout, increased downtime and capital expenditure. This talk should appeal to all those looking to discover more about asset management tools that can help with an organisation’s maturity.
Mobile technology is a hot topic for the maintenance industry at the moment, changing the way workers can perform their roles. With this in mind Roy Rothwell, senior consultant at eMaint EMEA will examine the benefits of mobile technology on mission-critical assets. Rothwell will explain that along with increasing efficiency, using a mobile CMMS helps organisations better manage maintenance on mission-critical assets, by improving the visibility of asset health and work performed, thus reducing downtime, providing real time updates and improving communication and safety. For those weighing up the CMMS options available, in his talk, David Hipkin, group managing director at SoftSols Group, will outline the ‘Top 10 questions to ask in your CMMS search’
Kamran Gharachorlou from SMMT is using The Business Exchange to present ‘Can Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Ever Be Successfully Implemented, Without Adopting the JIPM Approach?’ During his talk Gharachorlou will address: What is The JIPM approach? How does it differ from other methods? How can you select the right approach for your organisation?
David Andrews, senior surveyor at General Surveyor will take a look at roof maintenance and the safety management of modern industrial and commercial roofs. During his talk Andrews will simplify roof maintenance and inspection management and show how to manage responsibilities through a straightforward task list diary.
Lions' Lair
There will be additional showfloor entertainment in the form of show favourite, Lions’ Lair, which will once again be returning to Maintec with brave exhibitors presenting their new technologies, innovations and concepts to a panel of experts, in front of a live audience, in a bid to be voted best of show.
Diverse exhibitors
Exhibitors at Maintec 2015 include many of the major names and show regulars such as Hörmann UK, Pruftechnik, Thermaflue, KeyTracker and AV Technology, many of whom will be using the show to launch new products to the market or unveil their latest work.
Co-locations
Building on last year, which saw Maintec’s floor plan and visitor base expand massively, the organisers have confirmed that it will again run alongside Facilities Management. It debuted last year and quickly proved to be a neat fit with Maintec as many maintenance professionals now also have a wider FM remit. The Health & Safety Event, organised by Western Business Exhibitions, will also return for its second year. Finally, rounding off the co-locations will be easyFairs’ new show – Cleaning 2015, which is focused on buyers and suppliers from within the cleaning industry.
Visitors will be able to access all shows with one badge, offering hours of content in free-to-attend educational seminars, inspirational industry experts, masses of show floor entertainment and a wealth of exhibitors looking to launch new technologies and concepts to the UK market.
