New fleet reporting tool

16 March 2015

Briggs Equipment UK has developed an interactive, web-based reporting system that enables customers to take decisive action to improve fleet management and reduce costs by giving them 24/7 access to data.

The BE Portal has been created in response to changing customer needs, notably a desire for more comprehensive, dynamic query-based reporting. Using the latest technologies, it presents data in a series of dashboards, grids and downloadable documents, making it easier for customers to monitor equipment performance against service level agreements.

Use of the BE Portal is not dependent on the size of the fleet and there is no requirement to fit a telemetry device in order to access the data. Access is strictly controlled by secure user login and profile recognition managed via a three-tier hierarchy. Since the system is compatible with all laptops and tablets, as well as desktop PCs, it provides a useful ‘reporting on the go' facility.

Briggs Equipment's new business implementation manager, Andy Langley, says: "Decisions about fleet performance need to be based on sound information and that's what our approach to KPI reporting delivers. The BE Portal is a powerful business tool that puts customers in control, enabling them to spot trends and pinpoint issues such as truck overuse, and the associated extra cost this would incur, so that they can take appropriate action."

System users can review the performance of an entire fleet, part of it or even a single forklift truck, with the ability to drill down for additional detail, such as truck up-time, costs and servicing.

Ken Gofton, materials group leader at JCB Compact Products, who was involved in the original development project, says: "We're really impressed with the BE Portal; it is easy to use and gives us all the information we need, which is especially useful for audits.

"It has speeded up processes and response times, too. Instead of having to ring up or email Briggs Equipment about a breakdown, it takes me seconds to log it on the system and within half an hour I know when an engineer is due to attend site."

"The impact the BE Portal has had on our own systems and processes should not be underestimated," adds Langley.  "Now, because contract managers are better informed, they fully recognise the challenges individual customers are facing and so proactively work to identify potential issues and propose solutions. In fact, the whole team benefits, because improved two-way dialogue also means that engineers are better briefed and can take corrective measures quickly to ensure up-time."
