Performance Validation Systems

Loma System’s advanced IQ4 metal detectors and X5C X-ray inspection machines incorporate a Performance Validation System (PVS) that allows customers to confirm that the desired level of inspection is being achieved.

Installing a metal detector or X-ray inspection system as a critical control point (CCP) on a production line helps food manufacturers ensure products are contaminant free and safe for consumers. However, regular verification and monitoring of the CCP is essential to guarantee that foreign bodies like metal, bone and stone are being continuously detected at the required level.
The Performance Validation System prompts the operator to conduct detection tests using test pieces. It measures the performance against the desired detection targets set for each product which results in either a pass or a fail.
If the metal detector or X-ray system fails the PVS test, all products that passed through the machine since the last test will need to be retested or recalled for possible contaminants. If it passes, the line will continue to operate as normal until the next test is requested.
Once a performance validation test has been requested, the operator has 30 minutes to complete it; otherwise the PVS will stop the machine.
The PVS feature helps reinforce food safety as a number one priority for the food manufacturer, protecting it from potentially costly recalls and safety non-conformances.
The PVS not only ensures the metal detector or X-ray unit is detecting contaminants, but also captures evidence that the machine is working appropriately for food safety audits.
Once a test is completed, the results are logged so reports can be easily accessed. With retailer and food safety regulations becoming increasingly more stringent, and documentation being an essential part of compliance, it is extremely important to record how CCPs are being tested and validated on an on-going basis.
