New from Alfa Laval, the T45 Plate Heat Exchanger has a maximum heat transfer surface of 2360m2 and throughput of up to 1000kg/s. It is intended for general heating and cooling duties in process industries and on offshore oil and gas structures.

In common with other Alfa Laval gasketted Plate Heat Exchangers, the T45 consists of a pack of corrugated metal plates with port holes for the passage of the two fluids between which heat transfer will take place.

The plate pack is assembled between a fixed frame plate and a movable pressure plate and compressed by tightening bolts. Gaskets, available in a range of materials, are used to seal the inter-plate channels and direct the fluid into alternate channels. The number of plates is determined by the flow rate, physical properties of the fluids, pressure drop and temperature programme. Since the design is essentially modular, the T45's capacity can be increased or reduced simply by adding or subtracting the appropriate number of plates.
