Hermes Fulfilment is using automated
storage and order picking systems to
manage its returns efficiently. At its
site in Haldensleben, it has an
automated system from KNAPP that
features an OSR Shuttle for rapid
automated storage and retrieval,
combined with goods-to-person
picking using pick-by-light technology.
The OSR Shuttle has some 176,000 storage locations with capacity for one million items and accepts 2000 containers of mixed returns per hour.
Up to 10 different items are stored in each container. Totes are automatically retrieved from the store to supply 30 Pick-it-Easy Fashion workstations on two levels, where up to 15,000 items/ hour are picked during peak periods.
Operators receive picking information from a central touch-screen monitor which can display a product photo to show which product should be picked.
