Two cantilever racking installations from Pro-Dek Storage Systems have allowed one of Europe's largest manufacturers of kitchen and bedroom carcase and fascia panels to stock raw materials efficiently and with minimum damage in a West Yorkshire factory.

The 175,000m2 manufacturing and distribution facility was built by Decorative Panels Components at a cost of £10m. Following investment in advanced production and packing machinery, as well as storage equipment, output capacity is now 600,000 panels a week.

Pro-Dek designed and installed the racking in two sections with capacity for over 500t of chipboard and thin-board. The racking allows every pack to have a separate location and barcode for efficient handling and traceability and minimises the number of times material is handled.

For both types of board Pro-Dek has installed its heavy-duty Pro-Bolt cantilever racking, which allows arm positions to be adjusted in 150mm increments. Arms have a 1° positive cant and a bull-nose end to reduce the risk of damage during handling.

Chipboard racking is single-sided, 6650mm high, with six arm levels.

Thin-board racking is 6m high and has a mix of arm levels. Some of the singlesided racking has been designed to be converted to double-sided if DPC needs greater capacity in the future.
