Transforming temperature for the food industry

25 July 2013

Saturn Spraying, a leading supplier of food manufacturing equipment, are key players within their industry and synonymous with innovative, high quality food spraying applications.

Saturn’s technology is involved in the manufacture of over 50% of all Cornish pasty production in Cornwall. However, due to the complex, ever-evolving nature of the food industry, ICS Cool Energy was contacted with a view to enhance business by developing Saturn Spraying’s range of production services far beyond the realms of pasties and pies.

Whilst the principle of singular and small batch production of food products may seem like a fairly achievable task to most, in order to deliver output on a larger scale that meets the strict specifications of mass production, tough physical parameters need to be in place in order to ensure that the quality of products are upheld and ready for distribution on a commercial scale.

With a desire to move into the development of the more technically demanding area of breakfast cereal production, a solution had to be found that would allow for liquids to be sprayed directly onto foodstuffs in temperatures other than ambient. ICS Cool Energy worked alongside Saturn Spraying in the bid to accommodate this challenging attribute of cereal production.

ICS Cool Energy Sales Engineer Ben Newman recommended a T90 water heater as part of a closed loop temperature control system. Offering temperatures of up to 90°C, the non-pressurised T90 unit allowed for the specifications demanded by the spraying process to be tailored to, whilst also providing a safe method of keeping water based solutions at a specific temperature, so not to compromise the fluid’s composite integrity. Use of the T90 system helped to ensure that Saturn Spraying would benefit from improved production efficiency and minimal rejection rates long after the initial installation, with the system offering continuous production levels and reliability second to none.

Use of the T90 system helped to ensure that Saturn Spraying would benefit from improved production efficiency and minimal rejection rates long after the initial installation, with the system offering continuous production levels and reliability second to none. The installation of the equipment allowed for Saturn Spraying’s core processes to become even more specialised in support of their bid to both expand business and develop into new, previously unobtainable areas of production.

Saturn Spraying Sales and Marketing Manager Martin Purnell stated that "ICS Cool Energy provided us with the very equipment that we needed to break into markets that we previously couldn’t address. With the ICS Cool Energy T90 water heater unit, we have a technically sound product that will ensure that we remain at the forefront of Food Spraying Technology Worldwide.”ICS Cool Energy engineers approach each and every enquiry on a truly individual basis, taking the time to understand an application by thoroughly analysing throughput, demand and process. Only once such stages are completed would a recommendation for replacement or enhancement be made. This thorough approach ensures that both ICS Cool Energy and their engineers remain the benchmark throughout the temperature control industry, creating bespoke solutions and ensuring that businesses the world over can continue to develop in the face of any engineering challenge, situation or circumstance.
