Lighting controls

15 August 2013

Significant financial savings have been achieved at the warehouse and distribution facilities of an industrial equipment and hardware distributor in Germany due to lighting control that uses HTS KNX presence detectors from Theben, a member of the KNX Association.

Lights used to be left on all day. Now, lights in the 35 warehouse aisles are only on constantly in the early hours when orders are processed. Afterwards, when aisles are only occasionally occupied, the automatic system ensures lights are only on for a short period.

Only one presence detector per aisle is required as the design of the compact passage KNX includes the ability to cover long, rectangular detection areas such as corridors and to respond when the warehouse aisle is occupied.

KNX provides comfortable and energy-saving lighting throughout the entire building. Lighting, heating and blinds in offices are controlled with MIX actuators. An intuitive control panel in the staff area can call up central functions such as constant light in the warehouse at the start of the working day, with reduced lighting for cleaning in the evening and a function that switches off all lighting, reduces room temperatures and activates an automatic mode.
