Cast iron safety for bridge

11 October 2013

The future is looking brighter for Great Yarmouth's Vauxhall Bridge following the installation of DeckSafe Solution's GRP safety flooring.

Opened in 1852, the cast iron bridge was modified in 1886 to take railway locomotives, at which time the present footbridge was also added. Since its closure to vehicle traffic in 1953, it had fallen into disrepair, prompting a successful application in March 2011 for funding to undertake restoration work. On site work began in November 2012 and DeckSafe Solutions was commissioned to provide GRP safety flooring for the pedestrian access areas of the bridge.

Made to meet BS EN124 specifications – providing efficient grip in wet, oily and icy conditions – DeckSafe’s  50mm cored GRP panels provide a load strength of 16.7t/m2.
