WERMA offers additional safety feature with obstruction beacon with monitoring function
24 February 2014
In and around airfields it is a legal requirement to fix obstruction beacons to structures above a certain height – masts, high buildings, chimneys etc.
These beacons assist pilots in identifying elevated obstructions at night time, dawn or dusk or simply in poor visibility conditions. This makes this type of beacon a critical element in flight safety.
New low intensity LED obstruction beacon
The 280/281 family of obstruction beacons has been extended. Now WERMA can offer a "type B” low intensity obstruction beacon. The new beacon has a brightness of 32 candela and therefore offer additional safety through this level of intense brightness.
There is also a 230V version with monitoring function. If up to 2 of the total of 12 LED strios should fail, the beacon switches to a fault status, or "shut down” mode. This can be easily identified with the aid for example of an additional current monitoring relay. After the condition has been checked the beacon remains in fault status for 30 minutes and is checked again.
281 beacon – robust and resistant to poor weather conditions
The 281 beacon is extremely robust and resistant to all sorts of adverse conditions making it an essential element of flight safety. The materials used are salt water and aviation fuel resistant and the lens cover is made of borosilicate glass.
