A recent request for a means of protecting large turbine rotors provided Protective Packaging with the opportunity to demonstrate how the use of tailor-made 3D barrier foil bags can provide a speedy, effective solution for corrosion prevention, regardless of shape or size.
Previously rolls of foil were used to heat seal around the rotor, a method which was time-consuming and created a lot of waste.
Protective Packaging quoted for a tailored bag which was then prototyped. It was manufactured in two halves to enable lifting and shipment on bespoke transport stillages. The bag was 5.75m long and 4m in diameter.
Following trials the customer commented: "We’ve just finished bagging the first rotor using your manufactured bag. As anticipated, it’s a perfect fit.”
An order for volume production was subsequently received, manufactured and delivered within days.
